Description

A boxwood & ebonised chess set in Jacques Staunton style, presented in mahogany box with sliding top. Complete and in good condition.
Dimensions:
Box width: 18.5cm / 7.25"; depth 14.5cm / 5.75"; height: 9cm / 3.5"
Chess pieces: King 9cm / 3.5"; Pawn 4.5cm / 1.75"
Shown on a 19th Century marquetry folding chess board, made in Italy around 1870, inscribed Menton. Made principally of walnut, the board is inlaid with boxwood, ebony, mahogany, olive wood and other fruitwoods. It folds in half with a baize inlay on the reverse for letter writing.
