Description

Avro Lancaster Mk.I R5868 of No.467 Squadron RAAF over the Lincolnshire countryside.
This aircraft became the second highest scoring Lancaster with 139 operations to its credit and is today preserved at the Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon.
This is an original oil on canvas painted by the renowned aviation artist John Young (1930-2015). It is in excellent condition, presented in a simple wood and gilt frame.

John Young was born in Bristol in 1930, went to the Royal Grammar School and studied art at the School of Art, High Wycombe, served in the RAF, worked in the studio of an advertising agency before becoming a full time artist in 1960. He was a past chairman of the Guild of Aviation Artists (1987-9), he won many international art awards and was considered one of the finest aviation artists of his generation. There are some 40 paintings by John Young at the RAF Museum at Hendon and many in private collections round the world.
